Wedding Jewelry Is Very Important on Your Wedding Day

Wedding jewelry is a very important part of your wedding apparel, and you will want to ensure that every piece that you wear is perfect. You will want to ensure that the bridal jewelry sets that you purchase compliment your dress, hair and style. All too often brides feel they need to be someone different on their big day, and will wear jewelry that doesn’t suit them. You should look at every element of your whole wedding, and choose the jewelry that best represents you.

Your wedding day is the biggest day of your whole life, and you will want to ensure that everything is perfect. This includes all of your wedding jewelry from the smallest of details right up to the larger statement items. The smaller details will often get noticed on the big day, and you will want your guests remembering every part of your wedding. Choosing the right bridal jewelry sets can be quite daunting. You will need to set a budget very quickly to determine how much you want to spend on the wedding jewelry.

As with every part of your big day your spending can go over the top if you let it. Choosing the perfect bridal jewelry sets does not need to be expensive. You will be surprised how affordable these sets can be if you shop around, and are flexible on design. There are several different pieces of wedding jewelry that you will need to purchase. Wedding bands for both you and the groom are very important, as well as bridal jewelry sets for you and your bridesmaids. Although these are not essential they can help to finish the overall look of your dress and style on the day.

Choosing your style for the wedding jewelry is down to personal taste, and only you will know what that is. Although you can look through bridal magazines to get ideas, you should not buy jewelry because you think you should. Just because it looked great on another bride, with a different style doesn’t mean it will look good on you. There are no rules when it comes to choosing the type of wedding jewelry for the big day. You should select what you like, and what you know you will be comfortable in.

You should ensure that you try the wedding jewelry on with the whole outfit, and your hair in the style that you will be having it. It is surprising how different the bridal jewelry sets will look when put together as one completed style. If you are having a theme for your wedding you may want to include it somewhere on your wedding jewelry. If the budget is larger you may want to look at having bespoke jewelry made for your big day.

There are several different places for you to purchase your wedding jewelry to suit all styles and budgets. No matter what you are looking for, and however, much you have to spend with careful shopping and an eye for a bargain you will find the perfect jewelry. Many brides sell their bridal jewelry sets after their big day, and you may find that it is exactly what you are looking for. You can make a lasting impression on everyone attending the wedding and create a wow factor.

Finding The Right Vintage Engagement Rings

Why on earth would someone pick from among vintage engagement rings? They are old. Other people have worn them. The designs might be passe.

Of course, they are old. If they were not old, they would not be “vintage”. That does not mean they have no value.

The stones in vintage engagement rings were all hand cut. There were no lasers then to perform such tasks, so each stone is unique. Look at the stones carefully. Jewelers do not mind passing you a loupe so that you may examine it more closely. If you are serious about shopping for vintage jewelry, it may be a worthwhile investment to carry a loupe with you, for when you are shopping at some less traditional venues. Upon close examination, you will see distinct differences in the stones. No, they are not all perfect. Each stone will be slightly different from its companion. Much like people.

Vintage engagement rings frequently held colored stones as well as diamonds. Like the sapphire surrounded by diamonds given to Diana by the Prince of Wales, and now worn by Prince Harry’s fiance.

Wedding sets from the earlier part of the 20th century were traditionally comprised of an engagement ring, with a large solitaire, then the wedding band, which was either plain, or with a series of smaller stones. Do not be surprised if the stones in vintage engagement rings are not as big as we see in modern settings. A total combined carat weight of one carat was considered large. Modern mining and diamond cutting techniques have given us larger, higher quality stones. Unfortunately, they can lack not only the sentiment, but the beauty of the setting.

Vintage engagement rings can be highly ornate, with small “chips” set around the band, or with filigree worked around the crowns of the setting. Or they can be elegant in their simplicity, just a diamond and a band.

When shopping for vintage engagement rings, look closely at the band. Is there an inscription? If there is, you may want to have a jeweler change it to fit the wearer’s name and circumstances. Or it may be just right. Imagine picking up a ring that has "Always and Forever" engraved inside. But if it says “To Judy”, and the object of your affection is Ashley, you could be in deep trouble.

While looking inside the band, look for the hallmark. Older jewelry, from the 19th century, rarely had karat markings. However, they did bear the mark of the craftsman who made them. It will require a loupe to see the mark, and if it is a symbol, you may have to consult a goldsmith’s guide to see who made the piece.

Inspect the setting. Make sure the crown is secure. Years of wear can sometimes make settings lose. They are a simple matter to repair, and any competent jeweler would be happy to do so. Check first for the price, and if it seems too high, continue to shop. Also be mindful of places that send their work out. Sometimes, with irreplaceable things, it is better the work be done in-house.

Take your time when shopping. Consider all your options. Investigate different sellers. When you find the piece you want, buy it for life. The stones and the metals have lasted millennia before some person dug them out of the ground. There is no reason to believe they could not last a few more as part of a family legacy.

The Love for Vintage Jewelry

Every so often, while passing a store window or surfing the net, you will come across someone selling vintage jewelry. It looks so old fashioned. Why on earth would anyone want something that was used?

Vintage jewelry, whether it be brooches set with semi-precious stones or grandmother’s engagement ring, has stood the test of time. They are still in someone’s jewelry box because, while they are still “old fashioned” they are still Fashion, with a capital F. They were also very well made.

One hundred years ago, we did not live in a disposable society. Products were made to last, and to be passed down. If something broke, it was repaired or repurposed.

It is not necessary to examine a piece with a jeweler’s loupe to see the differences. Some of them are plain to the unassisted, naked eye.

Many European works did not use what are not considered “standard” stone cutting techniques. Diamonds set in Europe will appear to be set higher in the setting, rounded. The “table” the flat surface on top of the stone that not only gives the most reflective qualities but allows the eye to see into the stone itself to see the facets, will be much smaller. This is known as a “Mine Cut”. When compared to the modern Brilliant Cut, the traditional round diamond with the large flat table, the Mine Cut has more true fire, and gives more beauty to the piece. Keep in mind that until the last twenty or so years, ALL stones were cut by hand, the work of a skilled cutter. Today, many stones are cut by laser, which is why so many unusual cuts, like the Princess Cut and Asher are appearing on the market.

The older the jewelry, the less possibility that the stones will be enhanced. Many modern stones, such as black, blue and yellow diamonds, are treated with pressure, dyes and are irradiated to attain the desired uniformity of colors. Diamonds do appear in nature as blue, black and yellow. But true, natural Canary Diamonds are extremely rare, and would have commanded a huge price. They would only be found in the collections of the very wealthy. The Hope Diamond that resides in the Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution is an example of a natural blue diamond.

Take time to study the piece. How are the stones set? Are the backs closed or open? That will make a difference in the way the reflect the light, as well as how easy they are to clean.
A word on “Mourning Diamonds”. Women were traditionally forbidden to wear precious gems during their period of mourning. Full mourning was a year, then half mourning for another six months. During this time, all “bling” had to be put away. Women figured out a way around this. Yes, there were mourning brooches made from the hair of the dearly departed. There were also what was dubbed Mourning Diamonds. These are not diamonds at all, but Marcasites. Marcasites are considered a semi-precious stone, and are in reality iron pyrite, “fools gold” that is cut and faceted to look like small diamonds. At first glance, they look like the real deal, until you get a second, better look. Real marcasites have a soft, slightly green glow. They are almost always set in silver and are sometime paired with other stones. They are also considerably softer than diamonds, only about a 6 on the MOH’s hardness scale.

This jewelry has stood the test of time. Perhaps it is your turn to carry on, or begin, a new tradition, the love for Vintage Jewelry will last eternity.

Diamond Bridal Jewelry

Discovering what diamond bridal jewelry to include in the bride’s ensemble is not an easy task. Most brides are focused on the dress. The dress is a focus, but not the only focus. The bride will definitely need earrings. Optional choices include necklace, earrings, bracelet, and hair jewelry (including tiaras).

A bridal jewelry set is generally comprised of a necklace with matching earrings. Diamonds are the most popular because they are so beautiful, and practically define luxury. On a wedding day, the bride needs to be the focus, followed by the dress. Jewelry should be coming in a distant third. If it’s the focal point, then the bride overdid it.

The most logical way to pick bridal jewelry is to have it either match or complement the wedding band set. For added beauty and style, mix the diamonds with semi-precious gems. Said gems should, again, either match or complement the rest of the bride’s wedding ensemble, and her bridal party as well.

Once the bride has a rough idea of the look she’s going for, she has four options available to her: Rent, borrow, buy or commission.

Rent Call your local jewelry stores and ask for specifics. There will be a deposit required in addition to the actual fee of renting the items. The deposit is simply to cover any fees in case you return the item(s) late or damaged. You can even ask about the possibility of renting to own. As always, comparison shop. Don’t just rent at the first place you find.

Borrow If somebody in your family has jewelry that you would like to use as “something borrowed” don’t be afraid to ask. You may even end up asking 2-3 different people. With one piece from each, you’ll be covered. Just make sure you return the item in perfect condition, as quickly as possible after the big day.

Buying diamond bridal jewelry is to be reserved for budgets that have room for such a lavish purchase. Keep an eye on estate sales, wholesale and auction sites. Simply walking into your favorite jewelry store and picking from their selection should probably be your last choice. Nobody ever got rich throwing money away with both hands. If you do purchase, it will likely be viewed, at least partly, as an investment. And don’t forget to get a jewelry rider for your homeowners insurance.

Commission Find a designer you love, and work with him. He’ll need to know your budget, and what you have in mind. Show him your wedding ring set, and he will take it from there. Don’t forget to ask if he has a wholesale diamond supplier. If not, you’re going to need to do some research on that front, as well.

In closing, bridal jewelry can be as stark or intricate as you wish. It can come from any number of sources. Just make sure you take the time necessary to get yourself the most beautiful pieces at the best possible price.

Necklaces are one of the most basic accessories especially among women. With a pendant, piled bib or just a simple chain, these ornaments can do wonders to your over-all look. They can be worn in different occasions from casual lunches to formal dinners; necklaces can deliver faultless fashion statements. There are also different types of necklaces and one of them is vintage necklaces. Like other vintage jewelries, these necklaces are still very popular not just for jewelry collectors but for all stylish individuals.

Identifying Vintage from the Rest
Unless you are a jewelry expert, it is really hard to identify and distinguish a vintage necklace from others. When we speak of vintage, we always regard it as old. But vintage from clothing to cars, is more than just being old. Vintage refers to things that are at least 20 years old. Vintage is also different from antique which should be at least 50 years. From this description, a vintage piece will eventually become an antique jewelry.

If you have a necklace that dates back from 1980s, it is already a vintage jewelry. With this, a more relaxed criteria, it is never hard to find and own a vintage piece like a necklace. You can get these necklaces from flea markets and antique shops or from your mother’s jewelry box! If you are on a real hunt for these fashion pieces, check them online. It is not impossible to own these items for a good bargain. In terms of value and prices, they can go from hundreds of dollars even to millions depending on the materials used. Designer vintage pieces in gold with precious stones or diamonds will definitely cost a lot.

Flair and Fashion of a Vintage Necklace
Vintage necklaces like other accessories are made from different materials from various designs. Most of these vintage pieces are made of gold, silver and even sterling silver. Some of them are filled with precious stones and other materials for crafts. Those who are into designer jewelries can find vintage Christian Dior gold and silver pieces that you can wear for any occasion.

They also have funky and artistic designs. Simpler designer are those pendants from flowers to charms. There are also fearless designs like those cascading and layered chains with different beads, stones and other ornaments.

How to Wear a Vintage Necklace
Fashion-forward individuals prefer these types of necklaces for their bold image. Wear them alone and you can create a daring look. With these necklaces, you can instantly add personality to a simple outfit. In a flash, a simple jeans and shirt outfit can become a stunner when paired with a vintage Christian Dior 1980s necklace. Since most of these necklaces are already fashion statements, you don’t have to wear other accessories.
You can skip your earrings so these accessories will not; with each other. If you are not comfortable going out with "naked" ears, then choose those simple ones. Your necklace should be the center and focal point of your over-all look. You can also accentuate your vintage jewelry if you wear them over a simple shirt or dress. They are best worn with a plain colored garment.
